Completed in 1885 and steeped in history, the Armory Building was the first permanent home of the Macon Volunteers, a military unit that fought under Gen Robert E. Lee in the Civil War. The Armory Ballroom served as the site of many dances, balls and other community events until the 1970s. In 2006, the new owner, with the assistance of accomplished architect Sammy Thompson, restored the Armory Building to its former splendor.
